The North West of England is a beautiful area and has many places which give a great view and provide excellent opportunities for photography. Here we have listed some of the best places to photograph in the North West.
Blackpool, Lancashire
Blackpool is a popular resort town on Lancashire’s Fylde Coast and over 1 million bulbs measuring 10 kilometres long on the town’s Promenade are switched on and consist of every kind of light display you can think of including lasers, neon, light bulbs, fibre optics, searchlights and floodlighting. During the illumination there are numerous attractions on offer along the piers, theatres and the Pleasure Beach. The top of the Blackpool Tower provides some stunning views across the Fylde Coast and also gives some great photo opportunities.
Winter Hill
Located near Bolton, Winter Hill is the highest point of the area to the west of the Pennines; the hill is dominated by a large 100ft TV transmitter of the same name and gives stunning views across Manchester, Blackpool, Liverpool, Lancashire and even Snowdon on a clear day. Winter Hill is 456m above sea level and easily accessed via Horwich, just off the M61. The hill gives a great view across a large portion of the North West.
Beetham Tower, Manchester
Located in Manchester City Centre, the Beetham Tower provides stunning views across the entire city and beyond, with views of several different counties including Lancashire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire all possible on a clear day. The Cloud 21 Bar in the tower gives these views. The building cost £150 million to build and was completed in 2006. If you want to capture some photography of Manchester then this is the best place to go.
Scafell Pike, Cumbria
This is the tallest mountain in England standing at 978m above sea level. As part of the Southern Fells this mountain boasts stunning views across Cumbria and if you are looking for more rural photography then this is a highly recommended location. There are several different access routes to choose from, each with their own stunning views.
Billinge Hill, Merseyside
Similar to Winter Hill, Billinge Hill, near St Helens is another location where you can get some great views across the North West of England including Manchester, Blackpool, Derbyshire Peak District, Winter Hill, St Helens, Wigan and Snowdonia on a clear day, also the Widnes-Runcorn Bridge and sometimes the Jodrell Bank telescope near Macclesfield. The summit features a beacon tower which broadcasts the local radio station, Wish FM.
Cat and Fiddle, Cheshire
The Cat and Fiddle is the UK’s second highest inn, the Cat and Fiddle Road links Macclesfield with Buxton and features stunning views across countryside and even offers views as far away as Wales. On several dates throughout the year, visitors can enjoy helicopter flights from the Cat and Fiddle giving more opportunity for some stunning photographs.
